In my book, People are Seeing Something, I wrote about nearly 60 lake monsters in the United States and Canada. I only scratched the surface. One of the creatures that I did not include is the Muskrat Lake Monster. “Mussie” lives in Muskrat Lake, a glacier-formed lake in Ontario. The deep lake is similar in shape to Loch Ness and a variety of other lakes known for sightings of unusual water creatures.
Sightings of Mussie go back a century or more, although descriptions of the creature vary greatly. Looking through some old newspaper reports that I have collected, I found and interesting account from 1969. In this report, Mussie was blamed for sinking a boat.
